Quick answers

The app isn't detecting my handstand.

Make sure your full body — including wrists and ankles — is inside the camera frame. Detection needs a clear silhouette. Try moving the phone further back, or improving the lighting.

My hold ended before I came down.

CaliTimer uses Apple's Vision framework (VNDetectHumanBodyPoseRequest) to estimate your body position in real time. Like all pose estimation systems, it infers joint locations from a 2D camera image rather than measuring your body directly — this is an inherent limitation of the underlying technology, not specific to this app.

Conditions that reduce detection reliability:

  • Lighting — accuracy drops in dim, harsh, or unevenly lit scenes.
  • Framing — your body should occupy at least the middle third of the image, with no key joints clipped at the edges.
  • Occlusion — when part of the body is hidden, Vision still estimates those joint positions, but the result may be inaccurate.
  • Clothing — loose or flowing clothing reduces detection accuracy.
  • Camera angle — the same posture can be read differently depending on the angle you face the camera, because the model works from 2D image data of a 3D scene.

For best results, train in a well-lit space, position the phone so your full body fills roughly half the frame height with margin on all sides, keep the lens clean, and keep the phone stable.

If you see consistent mis-triggers in good conditions, send us a screen recording at support@calitimer.app — it helps us tune detection thresholds for real-world edge cases.

Pose estimation is provided by Apple's Vision framework. For more detail, see Apple's guide on detecting human body poses in images.

Where are my videos saved?

If you choose to save a set, the video goes to your Photos app. Videos you don't save are discarded.

Does CaliTimer work offline?

Yes, fully. The app makes no network calls.

Will my data sync between devices?

Not in v1.0. Your holds and personal bests live on the device you trained on.
